Sesame Chicken Rice Bowls

Those of you who have been around the Smart Nutrition block for a little while may notice that this sauce looks suspiciously familiar. Yup, it’s almost an exact replica of the life-changing walnut sauce I paired with salad rolls a few months ago. It’s so life-changing that I can’t just leave it to one recipe! You need any and all versions of this sauce in your life.

I replaced some of the canola oil for sesame oil. I’d like to say that it was a genius idea of mine but I confess that this invention was born out of necessity. I didn’t have enough canola oil for the full recipe but I already started making it so… sesame oil subbed in! I enjoyed the flavour so much I just knew it needed to be paired with even more sesame seeds on top.

Why It’s A Smart Choice

This is a fully balanced meal, all in one bowl. You’ve got your protein in the chicken, complex fibre-filled carbs in the brown rice, and healthy fats in the sauce. And, of course, you can load this bowl up with veggies! Which I highly recommend. (shocking suggestion from a Dietitian, isn’t it?)

And for those of you who can’t eat dairy, this is a good meal for helping to meet your daily calcium goals. Both the broccoli and the sesame seeds contain calcium.

If you give this recipe a go, let me know! Leave a comment, rate it, or snap a photo and tag it with #smartnutritionrecipes on Instagram!  I’d love to see your creations! Knowing someone has enjoyed one of my recipes always makes my day brighter.

Is this rice bowl cold? Broccoli and carrots are raw? Sauce is cold?

This was simple and delicious! The sauce is super easy to make. I bbq’d some chicken, sautéed veggies and made some quinoa to enjoy it with. It will definitely be made again. The whole family enjoyed it!
